I
am writing this message at the beginning of the New
Year and Millennium and we have not held our first ExCom meeting yet.
After our first meeting I intend to provide a brief update in
our web page to keep the Houston Section members informed.
By the way have you checked our web page recently?
I am sure you will be very pleased with the information posted
and the way it is organized and presented.
The only inconvenience is that the first thing you will see is
my picture, but believe me, it is a small sacrifice you have to pay to
get access to the remaining useful information posted there.
The address to our web site is listed on the back of The Pocket
Scope.
We closed 1999
with a very successful Section meeting. Our
guest speaker, Dr. Tom Hudson, proved again how entertaining he is.
Since it was Family Night we had a substantial attendance of
very young guests but the adults in attendance had as much fun as the
children did. We will try
to have Dr.Hudson again this year as our guest speaker for another
Family Night meeting.
The speaker for
our February meeting will be David M. Ostfeld.
His presentation will be on “Intellectual Property &
International Transactions”. This
is a subject of special interest to those involved in the development
of computer software. Mr.
Ostfeld has an MS degree in Electrical Engineering and in 1972
received a JD degree in law. He
has been a member of IEEE since 1965 and for a long time active in the
Intellectual Property Committee.
Mr. Ostfeld had lectured the Houston Section members before and
those of you who had participated are aware of the dynamic
presentations he offers.
Before
ending this message I want to remind all the Houston Section members
that Engineers Week will be held from February 20 through 26.
Plans for the most ambitious National Engineers Week in the
49-year history of the event are on the way.
The program, with special focus on minorities, women and youth,
also aims to reach the entire American Public.
More details will be posted on our web site at:
