  I would like to
welcome all of you as we enter into the new year. Turn
with me for a moment onto the back page of the Pocket
Scope as I recognize all the individuals who have agreed
to volunteer their time in 1999 as part of your Executive
Committee. I would like to thank each of them and would
encourage you to contact any of our members so that we
can address your issues and provide valuable services. During
our December meeting, the Committee agreed to provide an
award of $ 300 to the Student Branch with the most
students attending our monthly meetings at the end of the
year. The Student Branch with the most individuals
attending our eight meetings this year will receive the
award.We
strongly encourage student participation in our meetings
and plan to announce the winning branch during our
December meeting later this year.Also,
the month of February includes Pro-Am |
Day, in which, students spend a full
day working with technical professionals to learn more
about the daily routines of an engineer. If you are
interested in participating in this event, either as a
student or professional, please call Mr. Vincent Kwon at
(713) 215 8934 or myself.The
February speaker will be Mr. Bob Bell with Power
Correction Systems who will enlighten us on the subject
of lightning and surge protection on electrical systems.
This will be a joint meeting with the Power Engineering
Society. Please make your reservations and come join us
as we include a special celebration for Engineer's week,
as well.Don't
forget that Continuing Education started back up on
January 26 and you can call Mr. Herbert Lyons at (713)
