| QUICK RESPONSE WORKSHOP | THE POCKET SCOPE IS GOING ELECTRONIC | ||
|
IEEE-USA has been
conducting Quick Response Workshops (QRW) at locations where significant
layoffs have occurred or have been announced.
These QRW’s consist of presentations on Career transitions, selling
yourself, personal networking and the IEEE-USA salary survey.
In the Houston Section area we have experienced an employment slow
down mainly in the Engineering and Construction sector in the last few
months. If there is an interest
from the members we will contact the Employment Assistance Committee to set
up a QRW in our area. Since the workshop last about 8 hours, most likely it will be
offered on a Saturday and probably sometime in June.
We must know if there is sufficient interest among the Section members to organize a QRW. Any member willing to participate in one of these workshops should send an email indicating his interest to, j.benitez@ieee.org or donald.dunn@equistarchem.com. Please include your name, address, telephone number and member number, since the QRW’s are free for IEEE members.

The costs involved to
issue printed copies of The Pocket Scope have escalated to a
point that we intend to start with an electronic issue at the
beginning of next year. To
accomplish this goal we will need the full cooperation of our
members. Since we
do not have a reliable list of the e-mail addresses from all our
members we must begin by developing this list and keeping it up
to date. We ask each Houston
Section member to expend a few minutes completing the form
displayed at the end of provide us with his latest information.
The form will also be placed on our web site an you can
complete it there. Those members who do
not have access to e-mail, please complete the form and return
it to our P.O. Box address shown on the back page of The Pocket
Scope. We encourage all of our members to get a free alias at: http://www.ieee.org/eleccomm/alias-template.html. With the alias any changes of your e-mail address in the
future will only have to be corrected at one place. Our plan is to place
The Pocket Scope in our web site eight times a year as we are
presently doing with the printed issues.
We will send a reminding email to each member with a
direct link to the web site provided.
It will be the member’s choice whether to read the
newsletter on line or print his own copy. For those members who do not have access to the Internet we
intend to provide them with a printed copy as long as the total
number involved is at reasonable cost. We beg your cooperation on this matter of crucial importance to the Houston Section. Our objective is to apply the savings realized to improve some of the other services we offer to our members. For example: to cover expenses for out of town speakers to offer more appealing presentations, increasing the subsidy of the member meals at the Section meetings, increment our support to activities from our student members, local society chapters and others. here.to receive notification when a new Pocket Scope is
available |
