Section Meeting
Speaker Topic
NON-DESTRUCTIVE
PARTIAL
DISCHARGE TESTING |
|
Our
guest speaker , Mr. Martin W. “Mac” Carkhuff, from Ultra
Power Technologies, Inc. will be discussing the technology and
application of 60 Hz. Non-Destructive
Partial Discharge testing in field age Underground Power
Systems. He will be
addressing the following subjects:
Ultra
Power Technologies has tested over 10 million feet of cable in
over 40 states in the past 2 years, primarily with large
Investor Owned and Consumer Owned Power Utilities.
Recently they have begun to address the need of large
Industrial Customers to insure the reliability of their critical
underground circuits.
Ultra
Power Technologies, Inc. was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary
of Northern States Power Company in late 1997.
In doing so, Northern States became one of the first
utilities to utilize Partial Discharge testing to determine the
integrity of underground power cables, splices and terminations,
in the field.
Mac
Carkhuff is a Senior Account Manager with Ultra Power
Technologies, Inc. He
joined the company in 1999 after working for Northern States
Power for a year. Mac
has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice
Administration. Although
his degree is unrelated to his technical background his
involvement with this new technology qualifies him to provide us
with great introduction.
