Chairman's Message -----------------------

Kenny Mercado

We want you!  This organization needs active individuals who are interested in enhancing the career of electrical engineers.  We have opportunities right now to immediately plug you in to become an active part of our section.

Recently, I have received emails from IEEE members, Lewis Callaway and Thomas Sarver, who moved to Houston from other cities.  They want to participate locally.  I cannot put into words my feelings for those who dedicate their own personal time to help improve the lives of engineers.  Don’t hesitate one more minute!  Call me or anyone on our Executive Board right now and we will place you into an existing opportunity.

Don’t miss our fall schedule which includes John Stout’s Electricity Deregulation talk on September 23, Larry “The One-armed Bandit” Aford’s enthusiastic and inspirational talk on October 28, and Dr. Hudson who returns to demonstrate physics experiments on December 2 (your family will enjoy this truly special evening).

I would like to congratulate the following achievements: 1) Kumar Krishen, appointed by Governor George W. Bush to a five-year term to the Texas Board of Licensure for the Professional Medical Physicists, 2) the nomination of Dr. Mohammed Hussein for the 1998-99 Outstanding Branch Counselor and Advisor Award from Prairie View A&M, and 3)David N. Bishop and Michael W. Wactor for obtaining Senior membership.

Have a great month

And don’t forget to join us at our September 23 meeting.
