The Project Year 2000
Our Plan of Action

space.gif (828 bytes)Reliant Energy has dedicated itself since 1997 with a Project Year 2000 team formed from members across all business units. Reliant energy’s Project Year 2000 plan is divided into energy management information technology, end-user computing, facilities and vendor suppliers. Our speaker this month, Mr. David Baker, plans to enlighten us on the activities, procedures and programs in place at Reliant Energy – Houston Lighting & Power Company to ensure a reliable source of electricity to our customers on January 1, 2000. Thanks to the teamwork and dedication driving the Year 2000 Project, January 1 should be a day of celebration for the company.
space.gif (828 bytes)Our speaker, David Baker, is a native Houstonian from Bellaire. He graduated from Bellaire High School, and then attended Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984.
space.gif (828 bytes)After graduation from Texas A&M, he started work for Reliant Energy – HL&P at the South Texas Project in Bay City. In his fourteen years with Reliant Energy – HL&P he has had additional assignments as a Lead Engineer in the Performance and Start up Division of the Energy Production Department, Lead Engineer at the Cedar Bayou Power Plant, Technical Supervisor and General Supervisor of Operations at the Bertron Power Plant and District Manager of the Central Houston District in the Customer Relations Department.
space.gif (828 bytes)In 1996, he became the Service Area Manager in the Distribution Customer Service Department for Reliant Energy – HL&P’s Service Center in Baytown and Channelview.
space.gif (828 bytes)David currently serves on the Baytown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is Chairman of the Cedar Bayou Navigation District Board of Directors and the Baytown/West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation Board of Directors, the Baytown United Way Board of Directors, and the Galena Park Independent School District Educational Foundation Board of Directors.
