ELECTRICAL HEAT TRACING FOR THE NEXT MILLENNIUM
Mr. Chet Sandburg, Chief Engineer at Raychem Corporation, will present "Electrical Hat Tracing for the Next Millennium."   Mr. Sandburg hold five patents and has published over forty technical papers on electric heat tracing, fiber optics, sensor technology and the use of personal computers as design tools.  Mr. Sandburg is a Senior Member of IEEE 622 Working Group on Heat Tracing.
space.gif (828 bytes)Electrical heat tracing has developed into the preferred solution for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance.  Reliable heating elements combined with simple control systems have matured in the 1980's and 1990's.  The next millennium will bring significant changes and automation of heat tracing as a vital plant utility subsystem.  What was a stand alone system will be fully integrated into the computer management systems of the process plant.  We will look at a vision for future augmentations of control and maintenance systems for electrical heat tracing systems.
space.gif (828 bytes)Artificial intelligence can be used to provide focused advice for maintenance.  It is no longer
acceptable to alarm on a fault, it is necessary to provide information on what to do.  Simple AI programs for heat tracing are available.  DCL integration, Internet Protocol (IP), address augmentations, wireless communications and super computer power will be applied to electrical heat tracing as well as other functions in the process plant.  Han on, it is going t be exciting!
