Topic:

The 2005 N.E.C. expanded its requirement for Selective Coordination in Elevator systems to include Emergency, Legally Required Standby and Health Care Facilities. The 2008 N.E.C. increased the requirements further to include all COPS (Critical Operation Power Systems) sites. There are numerous challenges to accomplishing this requirement. The presentation will discuss:

The N.E.C. mandated requirements
Coordination Basics- Time Current Curves, "nested" curves separation requirements
Characteristics of different Overcurrent Protective Devices
Design Examples
Possible Impact on Arc Flash Hazard energy levels 
 
Speaker: Sam Terry.  Mr. Terry graduated from Texas A&M in 1976 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana. Throughout his 31 year career with Westinghouse / Cutler Hammer / Eaton Mr. Terry has held numerous positions; Outside Sales, PLC Specialist, AFD Specialist, and MCC Service Center Plant Manager. He is currently Eaton's Houston area Application Engineer.

The first section meeting for the second half of 2008 leading into 2009 has been moved from September 25, 2008 to October 02, 2008 at the HESS Club starting at 5:15.  The speaker will be Steve Evans who has been involved with every aspect of power generation, protection, control, distribution, transmission, and conversion for over 28 years.  His career included companies such as GE, MGE UPS Systems, American Power Conversion, AZZ/EPSI, and Enercon Engineering. He has been with DEIF, Inc, as CEO and General Manager since the US operations of the parent company started on January 1, 2007.

System and Network Overview of IPTV Service”

Russ serves as the project manager for the ATT U-verse/IPTV deployment at University of Houston’s new 1000 room Calhoun Lofts that will be open August 2009.   This is additional deployment from an earlier one done at University of Houston AT&T Lab.

November 14, 2008- The official deployment of AT&T's Advanced TV U-Verse in the University of Houston was celebrated today in the AT&T Lab, the first of its kind in an institution of higher education in the world.

October 2008- The UH AT&T is the first lab in the world to have the AT&T Advanced TV system, U-Verse. IPTV technology will be showcased in the lab while the University of Houston completes the construction of the Calhoun Lofts, a 1000 room complex, which will be the first installation of U-Verse in any university campus in the world. The Calhoun Lofts will be completed in the Fall of 2009.

The University of Houston ATT Technology Lab

Located in the University of Houston's College of Technology, the UH ATT Technology Lab (also known as the UH ATT Lab) was inaugurated in November 14, 2006 (see inauguration). The UH ATT Lab was the result of more than two years of collaboration between the University of Houston and Southwestern Bell Communications, Inc (now AT&T, Inc. ) in the areas of telecommunications, networks, and education. The purpose of the Lab is to serve as a hub for the international educational and research community and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information. To achieve its goals, the Uh ATT Lab has been equipped with state-of-the-art networking and communications equipment which include a campus-wide three-node SONET/MPLS and gigaethernet testbed that connects four UH research labs to regional and international research networks, wireless internet, and high-definition videoconferencing.
