Houston Section's Chair
Message |
|
Greetings from the
Houston Section of IEEE’s Region 5!
Despite the economic challenges that we
will no doubt be presented with this
year I am looking forward to a fun,
productive, and educational time.
In life you tend to get
the most from the things you focus on
the most. Whether that be your family,
church, work, friends, hobbies
whatever. You usually only get out what
you put in. I would like to make this a
year of opportunities for everyone that
is interested in growing.
Professionally- our local
section offers numerous chances to
learn. Become involved with our CED-
Continuing Education on Demand program.

A great way to increase the depth of
your knowledge on electrical topics,
earn development hours and meet other
electrical professionals in the area.
Would you even like to teach one!! Or
join one of the Group/ Societies that
you have a particular interest in (we
presently have 14 to choose from). (Click
Here for the contact information)
Or volunteer your services with IEEE at
the OTC- Offshore Technology Conference.

Houston Section visits Region 10
GOLD groups |

During the 2008 Sections
Congress in Quebec City, Canada,
we had our first GOLD Summit.
Summit Leaders from each region
were teamed up with each other
to come up with some ideas on
how regions could increase
interactions between regions and
sections. I was representing
Region 5, and I was paired up
with Tim Wong from Region 10.
One of the ideas that we came up
with was to try to meet up with
local GOLD groups while we
travel, and as it turned out,
between October to November of
2008, I was about to make a trip
to Malaysia, Singapore and Perth
Australia. This was really a
personal trip, guess there’s
nothing like practicing what we
preached!!

IEEE Houston Section
7th Annual Scholarship Golf
Tournament |
|
On Monday,
November 10, 2008 the IEEE
Houston Section sponsored
our Seventh Annual Scholarship
Golf Tournament held at
Walden on Lake Houston Golf
Club. The proceeds from this
event benefit the IEEE Houston
Section Scholarship Fund.
There were 42 teams and though
the weather was somewhat rainy
from time to time, the golf
combined with the food, fun and
prizes made for a great event.
We
sincerely appreciate our
sponsors and participants who,
once again, made this a
memorable event. We'll
have pictures up on the web
shortly.
Thanks to Gil Dolor for chairing
this year's tourney again and
all those who helped in so many
ways. |
