Greetings from the Houston Section of IEEE’s Region 5! Despite the economic challenges that we will no doubt be presented with this year I am looking forward to a fun, productive, and educational time. In life you tend to get the most from the things you focus on the most. Whether that be your family, church, work, friends, hobbies whatever. You usually only get out what you put in. I would like to make this a year of opportunities for everyone that is interested in growing. Professionally- our local section offers numerous chances to learn. Become involved with our CED- Continuing Education on Demand program. http://ieee-houston.org/CEDSeminars/SeminarIndex.htm A great way to increase the depth of your knowledge on electrical topics, earn development hours and meet other electrical professionals in the area. Would you even like to teach one!! Or join one of the Group/ Societies that you have a particular interest in (we presently have 14 to choose from). (Click Here for the contact information) Or volunteer your services with IEEE at the OTC- Offshore Technology Conference. Personal growth- Teacher in Service program- give a little back to your community and help promote electrical engineering at the same time. We help train teachers so they can teach/promote the Engineering Profession. Almost 100 have been trained. Help get one started in your ISD. Leadership- Getting leadership experience can be difficult, particularly for our younger professionals. There are numerous opportunities for you to become involved and in a very short time lead industry committees both locally and nationally. There are training programs specifically focused on leadership for involved IEEE members as well. These are just a few of the opportunities that immediately jump to mind. Come join us! We have general Section meetings four times per year and Executive Committee meetings even more so. Please check out our event schedule for more details. http://ieee-houston.org/EventsIndex.htm I look forward to meeting you. Sam Terry
