The Houston Section 2008-2009 CED Seminar Schedule will start up on October 7 and 8 with several courses that will cover new and exciting topics.  All seminars are to be held at Jacobs Engineering.  For more information you can visit http://www.ieee-houston.org/CEDSeminars/IEEE%20CED%20Reg%20Form%202007-2008.pdf.

We are looking for members that are interested in becoming Senior Members in the IEEE. If you meet the following criteria:

For elevation to Senior Member status, ten years of professional practice including five years of significant performance, and references (See the nominator letter and application form for clarification on the IEEE website) or if you know an IEEE member who qualifies for Senior Membership, I would like you to nominate him or her by forwarding their nomination to one of the Houston Section Excom members. If you qualify and are not a senior member please reply to one of the Section Excom members.

The Executive Committee and I feel that the programs we have implemented are fostering positive growth in our membership base. If you have feedback or comments contact one of the Excom members. Our goal is to add value to your IEEE membership.

The Houston Section has 3 representatives attending the IEEE Sections of Congress. They are Samuel Terry, Dwayne Lowry, and Gil Dolor.

The goals of the IEEE Sections Congress 2008 are three-fold:

  1. to provide an opportunity for delegates to gain information and training skills;
  2. to network and build relationships with other volunteers within the IEEE;
  3. to serve as a forum for Section representatives and other local leaders, enabling them to voice – on behalf of the collective membership – the ideas, issues, and recommendations which will impact the development and growth of the IEEE throughout the world, reinforcing its vitality and relevance to those it serves.

In addition to the individual growth and networking fostered by the Sections Congress, there are more far-reaching results.

The caucuses will generate specific, practical recommendations for action.  During the closing ceremony, the delegates will have the opportunity to assign a priority level to each of the recommendations through the balloting process.

The results will be announced as part of the ceremony, and will be delivered to the IEEE Board of Directors for implementation in strategic planning for the future of the IEEE.

Thank You

Justin McCaskill
